Women currently hold less than 6% of the mayoral positions in Israel, which is three times lower than the average in EU countries.
To change the position of women's local leadership in Israel, we aim to double the number of women mayors from 15 (elected in 2018) to 31 in the upcoming municipal elections of 2024
Why 31?
The last elections were almost a breakthrough when the number of women in office more than doubled. If this trend continues in the 2024 election and the numbers double yet again – this could be the beginning of a revolution.
A window of opportunity
We did it! Registration data reveals the initiative reached its first impactful milestone, achieving a historic record number of women registering as mayoral candidates.
